Course in Corrosion and Corrosion Control
in Light Water Nuclear Reactors
course Instructor: Barry M. Gordon, M.S., P.E.
Student quotes:
- Fantastic! The man is not only super smart,
but also very entertaining. The NRC more than
got their money’s
worth out of this guy. He could easily answer
most questions off the top of his head and quickly
admitted when he wasn’t sure about
something or just did not know and took prompt
action to follow up. He made himself available
after class and provided his e-mail to students
to provide after hours support (provided additional
documents to students). The gift that keeps on
giving. Barry was open to all questions and comments
and valued the input from all students. Barry
also provided lots of good stories and provided
excellent real life examples of corrosion.
- This
class is a solid and comprehensive overview of
topics relevant to nuclear power plant corrosion
with an excellent course manual for future use.
Mr. Gordon is a great instructor with a wealth
of real world experience.
- Excellent course that
should be required for all license renewal personnel.
- Its breadth and depth were excellent. Its
balance between the historical and current implications
was well-placed. The incorporation of international
experience in developing the US operating and regulatory
perspective was great.
- This was a great introduction
to corrosion and reactors. This course gave new
(NRC) people a broad overview of BWR and PWR
construction and operating issues.
- Barry actually made a very boring (albeit
essential) topic very interesting and fun! He
is full of this subject and obviously a passion
for the work.
- Barry performed very well. I have
been to the Technical Training Center for training
on eight different occasions. Barry has been
the best instructor I have had. Form tone to
annunciation to student interaction, Barry was
very good!
- Barry did an outstanding job keeping
the class flowing. He provided supplemental information
that helped illuminate principals covered in
the text. He fully addressed all questions raised
by the students. His wealth of experience in
the area of nuclear plant corrosion is a major
contributor to the quality of the class.
- I believe
that Mr. Gordon has had extensive industry and
research/development experience as well as consulting.
The subject is a challenging one in consideration
of the width and depth involving different disciplines.
- Mr. Gordon collected and organized the class
material well and beautifully. He was very open
to any questions and discussions, which lead
to, I believe, productive training.
- Instructor was very knowledgeable in the subject
area. He did an excellent job of presenting the
material and mixing humor to keep the class’ attention.
He was also good at answering questions.
- Mr. Gordon
was very knowledgeable in topic material and
current on both industry and regulatory perspectives.
Presentation style was easy going including management
of inputs from topic “experts” within
the class. Tone variance and material interruption
(jokes, stories and asides) were appropriate to
aid in attention span. Ownership and genuine
concern in the course were obvious. Overall,
a great instructor.
